Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
She is my favorite heroine of all times, sincere, straightforward, outspoken, with self-confidence, sensitive, innocent, passionate, uncompromising!.

If you mean the Reed household I would say Mrs Reed is her worst enemy because she can abuse her both physically (which she does in the beginning of the novel and we learn more about it when Jane returns to Gateshead when she is ill) and psychologically because she is always isolating her and make her feel unwanted, insignificant and repelling!. And her being an adult while Jane just a child makes it even worse for her as she should be more considerate than her brute of a son who can be partly be excused due to immaturity and bad upbringing (again Mrs Reeds fault)!. She is in hold of the situation and therefore she has the most power over Jane, which power she constantly misuses!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

I love her character - the fact that she is strong enough to walk away from Mr Rochester and refuse to marry St John (!?) even though it is the 1800's and a woman in her situation would normally have done so!.

She is principled (almost to the point of irritating!), and strong willed and manages to be a good, kind person despite her cold upbringing!.

I think it is the mother who treats her the worst as the children are a product of their environment and wouldn't know any better at that stage of their emotional development!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
