No they are not!.
The books are far superior!. The movies are like watered down version without nearly as much heart!.
I've been very disappointed with the films, while most of the adult casting has been marvellous that's about the only compliment I can give them!. Considering the richness of the dialogue and description in the books you'd have thought it'd be an easy task to adapt them into movie form, but I'm afraid they've hired screenwriters who IMHO have failed miserably in that task!. Many characters have been reduced to caricatures or removed entirely and plot devices and sub-plots that added so much and were actually to play a part later have been removed and replaced with silly show-off effects laden scenes that weren't in the books (for example the tasks in the tri-wizard tournament, we're meant to worry Harry won't survive but that's insulting to the readers for two reasons a) we know what's going to happen as we've read the books and b) it was the middle book of a seven book series, he was hardly going to die was he!?!!)!. It's all about making money though and integrity went out the window!.
I think they've been very shoddy, there's been a few funny scenes but the humour of the books that was so much more clever has been replaced with trying to make small children laugh and that's not who the stories are solely aimed at (there was always plenty there for everyone in the books)!. WB has got a demographic in mind though (kids) and they're sticking to it, even if the majority of fans are much older!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I am a book person, so I go see all the book movies that I love!. I am very hard on the book movies if they're not very close to the books (which I always think are better)!. I think that they creators of the Harry Potter movies did a pretty good job of sticking to the books-- as good a job as they could have considering all the fantasy and enormous content of the books-- and I love both the books and the movies very much!. I strongly suggest both to you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The stories are pretty close - the biggest differences started coming out in the 3rd movie in terms of just omitting important information!.

Were you confused how Sirius Black even escaped Azkaban!? Or why everyone thought he was after Harry Potter!? It's because the Minister of Magic visited Azkaban, and Sirius Black asked to see his newspaper, and on the front was Ron's family, who'd won the lottery!. Sirius saw, on Ron's shoulder, Scabbers (who was Peter in rat form)!. Sirius was in PRISON because he was convicted of killing Peter, and knowing that Peter was still alive gave him power to overcome the dementors!. Sirius read in the newspaper that Ron went to Hogwarts!. Sirius started saying in his sleep, a few days before escaping "he's at Hogwarts!.!.!. he's at Hogwarts" and everyone thought he was going to go after Harry, even though he was talking about Peter!. Sirius used his new found power to turn into his dog form and he had become so skinny, he fit between the prison bars and swam off the island and traveled to Hogwarts!.

Several sub-plots were removed or only mentioned once!.!.!. Hermione's quest to free the house elves, Peeves the Poltergeist's various pranks on Hogwarts, the teachers revolting against Umbridge, Ron joining the Quidditch team his 5th year, Hagrid's quest to the giants and much more!.

The story is DEFINITELY there, and the moviemakers have been faithful to the story for the most part, but more has been removed than has been added!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I haven't read the books, or seen the movies (but live about 15mins bus ride from Goathland Station, which they used for HOGSMEADE Station in the movies + have a friend who's a complete Harry Potter nut)!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!. but as far as I understand they're a pretty close match, particularly the early ones!.!.!.!.!.!.!. but in the later movies I've read posts around the internet from Harry Potter fans claiming they skipped a few bits from the books!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

yes, the harry potter movies are very close to the books!.!.!.!.that was one of the things that impressed me so much with the series in both forms!.!.!.!.even in the first one!.!.!.!.the bricks that moved and rolled so harry could go through!.!.!.!.!.!.the detail read amazingly and if you read it first, when you saw the movie and watched those bricks move you could actually recall the description from the bookWww@QuestionHome@Com

The first and second are really good!. I HATED the third!. The fourth was pretty good, I thought!. The fifth was ok!. I thought it left some stuff good stuff out, but it's sometimes necessary to cut back on time!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
