Question: Why do you think that in Of Mice and Men Curley's wife never got a name since she played such a big part!?

It's because she is defined by Curley!. Married women don't get their own lives, so she doesn't get her own name!.

Edit- Curley puts Vaseline on his hand because his wife won't be intimate with him!. He's being intimate with himself!. That's the joke all of the men are laughing about!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think it has to do with the literary value of the term "Curley's wife!." It's in keeping with the objectification women faced at this time!.
Plus her role as 'Curley's wife" is exactly what she is, and what it's supposed to be: the wife of Curley, she belongs to him, he [supposedly] Vaselines up his hand so that he really feels like he 'owns' her when he touches her; Curley's wife, Curley's woman, not Lenny's to touch!.

Like a rabbit!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

woah!! im answering this question right now on my homework!.
i think it is because she is overlooked, she is being shown off by curley as a trophy wife to flaunt and the author wants us to see her this way instead of seeing her as a real person!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Um i dont really know i think it was because it would maybe offend sm women at the time it was publishd if their names were usedWww@QuestionHome@Com

I believe it reflects on how women were treated back then, They didn't get much respect, so I believe that's why she was never really named!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
