Question: Lord of the Flies Symbolic Essay!?
In school i was given a project about the book The Lord of the Flies!. I have to choose one symbol from the book, and choose what it is symbolic of and write an essay on it!. One example my teacher gave was how Ralph was symbolic of civilization, i also have to choose three examples but i can do that if you provide a topic!.

What i am asking is if anyone could think of another symbol in the book, not the ralph one, and what it is symbolic of!. Thanks and best example gets my vote!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Jack is symbolic of the primal side of human nature

Simon is a symbol for Jesus

Piggy is a symbol for both oppression and science

The Conch is a symbol for government/order

The Ocean is a symbol for the unknown

The Lord of the Flies is an allegory, so almost everything in there is a symbol!. The ones i mentioned above will probably be the easiest to write an essay on!.

For example, Simon symbolizes Jesus because when he's on the island he seems to be at peace with nature (when he walks off on his own), he has the enlightening conversation with The Lord of the Flies {pig's head on a stick}, and he dies in a sacrificial way!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
