The bad dude - Flagg (if you've read The Stand, he may sound familiar) tells Peter "I'll carry your head on my saddle-horn for a thousand years!. Here I come Peter! Coming for your head!"

At best you could say it is a Young Adult novel!. He wrote it for his daughter Naomi and his friend Ben Straub (who I'm assuming could be Peter Straub's son!?) in 1987!.

My copy, purchased from a used book stall has a handwritten message inside the front cover - "Different than his usual stuff!."

Definitely not!. I read that book six or seven years ago, and I one of the things I remember most from it is 'flaccid penis' on an old guy, which for one thing, creeped me out a little, as the mental image was!.!.well, gross!.!.but that whole part of the book is just not something I deem kid-worthy!.

I think it was just one of his earlier books and really !.!.not!.!.great!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I believe that it was intended to be a classic fantasy!. They can seem like they are geared toward children, because they don't usually have a lot of sex and/or gore!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No, I understand how it could be geared towards their imagination a little more!. But no, I don't think Stephen King should ever be allowed to write anything for children!. I love his books though!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
