Hester comes out of prison and mother/child saga begins; with no father Pearl becomes spoiled and self-centered, fascinated with imaginary things while her mother, torn between her love for the child and her own guilty conscience indulges her with lavish clothes and no correction at all!. These chapters hold the real meat of the story, where we see one action leading to another and a building, if you will, of tension where the secret begins to thread its way to the other members of the adulterous affair!. Actions and consequences, as Hawthorne deftly shows us!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
