Hmm good question! I suppose various reasons come into account when considering it's literary value!.

>The plot: Harry Potter's plot is basically new, not many books intermix fantasy with reality, and especially the present-time reality!. also, it's plot is very complex, very elaborate; but you seldom find redundant details in it!. Harry Potter's plot is, also, quite intriguing, it contains captivating subplots; of course they're essential in books as they keep the reader interested, it's suspenseful and some of the ideas are mind boggling!
Harry Potter, for a considerably long series, has very VERY few plot holes!. It all ties in, in the end J!.K magnificently managed to tie everything together!

>The characters: Let's speak of the magical creatures first!. J!.K created a new world, her characters are new, each and every magical creature displays her creativity, her ingenuity!. All of her creatures are amazingly complex and praiseworthy, from Wrackspurts to Dementors!.!.!. funny creatures she made up and the magical creature list is massive, containing loads of creatures, you simply can't memorise them all!. It's fascinating!.
Now the main, human characters!. Harry- very complex childhood, a half-blood, not a perfect hero, makes mistakes like normal people do!.!.!. for short, a human!. Snape- so complicated, his past, present, future; I can't find words to describe his greatness!. Dumbledore- wise, old, Gandalf type of man, supporter of good but with a very unpredictable past, who would've known that Grindelwald story!. Ron, Hermione, Luna, Fred, George, Neville- just considering the character development in the books is sufficient, not mentioning how any reader can relate to them!. Now Voldemort- he is so!.!.!.!. COOL! I mean, I can't find a better word, how he became Voldemort, his past!.!.!. just WOW!.!.

>The names: we have got to take that at hand, just look how each and every character name has a particular meaning relating to the character himself!. Albus for example means white, that refers to Dumbledore's pureness, his kind heart and good !. Draco, Snape, Fred, Voldemort!.!.!. all these names have meanings relating to the character's characteristics as well!.
Spell names, each and every spell is a Latin/Greek word that means what the spell is meant to do, of course the words are slightly modified to be easily pronounced!. The magical objects, the wands, the schools, basically every name in the series has a meaning behind it!.

>Moral value: the morals in the series are amazing, what it teaches the reader, the message it sends, it's all great! Harry Potter, although its genre is pure fantasy, it has good morals; braveness, awareness, importance of studies, truthfulness, the difference between good and bad!. It's all there for the reader to comprehend!.

>The writing style: J!.K has got style! Seriously, her writing style is captivating, her books are addicting!. Once you start reading you simply cannot stop, it sucks you in and you just HAVE to finish it!. Deathly Hallows, I couldn't put it down, after midnight or not I HAD to finish it, I read it twice in a row!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's awesomeness, period!.
Hahaha!. :P

Well, there's the good writing, the good plot, the fact that it can be read by a lot of different kinds of people, the good characters, the good movies, blahblahblah!.

The plot and everything reaches out to both the 'not-so-literary' group of people and the literary people!.

Dunno!. I shouldn't have tried to explain; I'm bad at it!. =)) Anyway, all everyone needs to know that it's brilliant! :P Haha!. :)

Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's sheer brilliance full stop!.

There isn't a book in history that anybody has put the same amount of thought into!.
*It reaches all audiences* that's important!.
If you want to know actually how deep the book goes (or how amazing JK's mind is depending on which way you look at it) go to http://www!.mugglenet!.com
