Question: Am I plagiarizing when I do this!?
If I write a novel using a certain philosopher's ideas and a certain theme of philosophy, would I be plagiarizing if I don't mention the philosophy or philosopher, but have the reader analyze it and try to make understanding of it himself or herself!?

Let's say I decide to write a novel about free will and I have the character(s) act in a certain way which Sartre would have mentioned in his philosophy, would it be considered plagiarizing if I don't mention Sartre!?

Example: If I were to incorporate the existential claim of existence precedes essence in my novel by showing the excessive freedom my character(s) have, would I be plagiarizing if I don't even mention the philosophy of "existentialism" nor its advocates at all!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

You might want to mention Sarte in the bibliography at the end of your novel to be safe!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Nope!. Unless you're using enormous chunks of Sartre's text you're not plagiarising!. I'd be impressed if you managed to incorporate that lot into a great story!. :pWww@QuestionHome@Com

Not unless you are copying down big pieces of his written theories!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
