Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
I'm not sure, but I found my self-esteem improved when I stopped thinking so much about my self-esteem!. Self-help books in general are garbage!.

I prefer books of a more scientific bent, that may not necessary carry advice and proscriptions for improving one's outlook, but nonetheless contain fascinating insights into the manner in which our minds work, our mental blind spots, and how we came to have a thing as marvelous, flawed, and weird as the human mind!.

See books like How the Mind Works or The Blank Slate by Steven Pinker, or Kludge by Gary Marcus!.

Any great piece of fiction, literature, or historical non-fiction can also be useful in gaining a different perspective on life !.!.!. especially if it's about someone in a situation or culture that's totally alien to you!. The culture shock can be effective in putting you in a different frame of mind!.

Good luck!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
