I just answered a question from someone else looking for authors who are similar to Kurt Vonnegut!. But Kurt Vonnegut is definately someone you should read if you're getting started with writing and want to be a novelist!. An absolute must is his book, Slaughterhouse Five!. It manages to be hilarious, mind-bending, deeply moving, painful, beautiful and ultimately very human, all in a relatively short number of pages!. The guy was just brilliant!.
When I think of novels that have most influenced me and are most unforgettable to me, and that I have read more than once and will read again in the future, I think of Catcher in The Rye by Salinger, Slaughterhouse Five by Vonnegut, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, and just about every book I've read by John Steinbeck!.

That should be enough to get you started!. Happy reading!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hey! I dressed up as Alice Cullen for Halloween today! it was great! lol!.
Try "The Host" by Stephenie Meyer!. I heard that one was great!. also, try "Uglies", "Pretties", & "Specials" by Scott Westerfeld!. (in that order!.!.!.it's a series)!. And basically, you can study English Lit!. at any 4-year university that offers it!. Like, ASU (Arizona State University) has it, BYU (Brigham Young University, I suggest the one in Utah if you wanna go there!.!.!.it's a great LDS [Mormon] college!.!.!.very renowned)!. I would think that almost any 4-year university should offer it!. Good luck! :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Novels that most consider to be great works of literature:
"1984" by George Orwell
"The Great Gatsby" by F!. Scott Fitzgerald
"The Brothers Karamazov" by Tolstoy
"Gone With The Wind" by Margret Mitchell
"Doctor Zhivago" by Boris Pasternak
"Brave New World" by Huxley
"The Grapes Of Wrath" by Steinbeck

As for schools, look for ones that better known for their English or Journalism programs!. Your best bet would probably be a smaller school instead of a huge university!.

umm twilight and the harry potter series is far from english literature!.
they are morelike teen/young kid fad books
if you really want to study that you should start going into the classics!.
i realli liked jane eyre, pride and prejudice, and the count of monte cristo!.
there are plenty of books to choose from!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Um, those don't sound like good books for a novelist to be honest!. They are high and middle-school reads in my opinion!. But if you like that genre I would recommend some C!.S!. Lewis or George MacDonald!.

You should try some Sci-FI /Utopia books such as 1984 and Brave New World!.

A Clockwork Orange is a very mature but good read as well!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

the Thirteenth Tale, Agatha Christie, Animal Farm (i know its a kinda short book but its good), Eragon & Eldest (yes very cliche), Rebecca, The Intelligencer Www@QuestionHome@Com
