No, reading cannot make you smarter!. Your IQ or your capacity to process and utilize information is based on what you were dealt!.

Reading can expand your understanding of topics, give you insight into the human condition (if you're reading the right type of books), and give you a wider vocabulary!.

You can use your intelligence to its full potential by learning how to use what you do have in the correct ways!. Kind of like, you can put sticks in the washing machine and it will run, but you're not really doing anything useful!. If you use it in the right way, you'll get a better result!.

It might seem like you're getting smarter, but really you're just using your brain better!. No difference in how smart you can or can't be given the chance!. Really, you're just adding more life experience and having more things to think about!.

Keep reading, just make sure you read the right kind of books!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes!. We only have an innate desire that we are born with, sucking, grabbing, and eating are the physical desires!. of course emotionally we desire to love and beloved!. Everything else we desire is from what we learn about first, and some form of pleasure we think we will get out of it!.

If you did not know people could drive cars, then you would not desire to want to drive!. Playing sports, sky diving, scuba diving, painting, are things you learn about about and decide if you desire them!. Reading a book about something is one was to learn about something new!.

Now reading Fantasy books might make you want to dream of something new!.

Now also reading can build neurons when you are young which helps build your memory!. And when you are old it helps keep the neurons last longer, so you can keep your memory longer!. Plus reading is fun, if you find something you really like!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I have been a bookworm my whole life and reading will definitely improve your vocabulary and you will learn new words!. Make you smart, maybe but not by a large amount!. Make you more sophisticated, definitely!. It will expand your ability to retain knowledge and then recall it later!. So yes it will make you smarter, but don't expect it to happen quickly or for it to be a huge difference!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yep!.

It might even influence you enough to write your own book!.

Audio C!.Ds are great too!. If you like comedy/thrillers check out:
Ben Rehder's "Gun Shy"!.

also, if you really want something special, consider reading one of James Lee Burke's mystery/thrillers:

Swan Peak

Jolie Blon's Bounce

The Tin Roof Blow Down

Last Car to Elysian FieldsWww@QuestionHome@Com

I have to say 'yes' because while it doesn't outright raise your IQ or something like that, certain books do cover certain topics and thus you gain a small understanding of a wide range of topics!. For instance, because of books, I know the entire background of Catherine of Aragon and even quantum physics!. Weird, right!?

So to wrap this up, I'd just have to say yes because it broadens your vocabulary, lets you draw on situations, challenges your way of thinking, teaches you about topics you might not have been familiar with before, and passes the time away!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Reading anything instantly makes you smarter than you were!. Continue reading and elicit opinion from those that are educated as to what to choose to read and you will become profoundly smarter!.

Good luck !Www@QuestionHome@Com

Only if they're well-written! But, yes, books definitely raise intelligence levels (even in math I hear)!Www@QuestionHome@Com

yes, because reading is fun, but a bit boring and i also become a bookworm too!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Reading will give you sense and exercise your thinking process!. That's for sure!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I suppose it depends on what you read!.
But not reading might make you dumb!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
