Hi, this has happened to me before!. I made up a stupid excuse and they weren't interested so I suggest that you just apologise and then say 'how much does it come to'!? They won't let you off the fine, just like they wouldn't let you off the fare for a bus, however, when you phone up the library, you can stop the fines accumulating and renew them so that you don't have to pay the fine until you next go in!.

Just be apologetic and they will be nice to you about it - everyone gets a fine sometimes!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm pretty bad at returning books!.

I've been banned from 4 local councils and am currently using my mum's card who ironically enough is a librarian!.

When I do return books, I normally tell them a variant of the truth and say something happened that has kept me incredibly busy and I ask if they can do anything on the fine!.

The last thing most librarians want is some sort of scene or argument and usually they discount the fine down!.

Speaking of which, I currently have about 8 books due back at 30p a day, 2 months overdue!.!.!. blimey, that's £144 I'd better give them back pronto!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Don't worry - we all have our reasons, I'm always over due and I've been paying so much in fines!. They're used to it so they won't be too surprised - since it's been two months, just tell them the truth and say you forgot or something, been away etc!. When you arrive and return the books, try to be apologetic and acknowledge that the books are very late and offer to pay up the fine!. When books go overdue for so long some libraries have a policy of capping the fine at a maximum so it won't run into hundreds or something ridiculous!. Usually it's about 10 pence a day per book!. Go to their website and calculate the approximate fine you're likely to get!. You'll be fine, don't worry, some of us are quite bad with library books and it includes me! Good luck! ;)Www@QuestionHome@Com

You'd be better taking them back and paying whatever fines are due on them or else you could end up being charged full price of the books!.

The fines are usually small, in the library I work in it's only 7p per day per book!.!.!. but obviously if you've got a few out then it all adds up, especially the longer you keep them!

It happens a lot! But like I said, better paying a small fine than being charged full price for replacement books!.

There will be a fine, but it won't be much and you might not have to pay it right away!. They'll probably be really nice about it - they're used to it! Just bring the books back in as soon as you can and apologise!. My friend is a librarian, people forget to bring books back all the time!. Don't worry about it xWww@QuestionHome@Com

take them back as soon as you can as the bill will be mounting week by week!.just tell the truth if you don't have the money there and then they'll probably put it on your card to be paid the next time you visit the library!.If you're unemployed I think it's cheap or even free can't be sure thoughWww@QuestionHome@Com

library fees are usually wicked low, and librarians are use to books being over due!. just be polite!. and pay the fee!. it'll be like 5 cents a day or something!. most libraries have a max!. ours is 3 dollars a book, 5 for a movie, 10 for your whole card!. i wouldn't worry!.

can anyone answer mine!?

doesn't matter, just go there and say you forgot to return them and might charge you but only around 70p so that doesn't really matter!.
they might not even charge you, just make up an excuse like i went on holiday or i had an accident!.

they usually just let you off

hope i helpedWww@QuestionHome@Com

OMG! Nearly two months overdue!. You’ll have to watch out for the ‘Library Policeman’ who comes in the dead of night to get the books!. If you don’t believe me; just ask any Stephen King fan, or read the story!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

yes you will have to pay a fine how much depends on how many books you loaned!.dont worry about it we have all done it at some point i'm sure!.i know i have!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Say "I apologize for being late, and would like to pay my overdue fees"!. Your librarian isn't interested in hearing some made-up excuse!.

March up to the desk and say "I need to give these in - how much do I owe you!?"

Tell them you had problems and forgot!. They may be able to work something out with you!. The longer you go on, the higher the $$$$$ !!!Www@QuestionHome@Com
