well people have already answered your question but i just got done with this book in language so here it goes!.!.!.

i think you already know the roles but they foster inequality so the inner party can have power just for the sake of having power somewhere near the end of the book o'brien even says that!. they keep this inequality going by destroying all evidence of the past and convincing everyone that life is good!. by destroying the past nobody can compare what it used to be like to how it is for them!. in other words they're basically "content" with what they have and how they're living!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Inner Party (Upper class) are a small governing minority who control all wealth, and Oceania's economy!. They maintain their power through four government ministries (Peace, Plenty, Truth and Love) which have the primary function of controlling the Outer Party (Middle class) by rigid monitoring and severe restrictions on the the Outer Party members freedom of thought and action!. The role of the Outer Party is to manage Oceania's infrastructure, production, and security, for the benefit of the Inner Party!.

The third group and majority of people in Oceania are the Proles (Lower class) who carry out all manual work in manufacturing, transport, social, and service industries!. The Proles are controlled and sedated with cheap alcohol, mundane entertainment, and a constant stream of good news about battle victories in a 'war' constantly taking place with Oceania's neighbours!.

The Inner Party (Government) fosters inequality to maintain it's own power and prestige!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

they each have different types of jobs and they all love what they do!.!.!. if they were all equal then they would all want to work the high end jobs and everybody would hate doing the bottom jobs but this wAY they all love what thhey do!.
PS: im not sure but i might be introducing brave new world in there!.!.!. i still get those books confusedWww@QuestionHome@Com
