Question: Why is it cute for characters to not know how to cook and do domestic stuff!?
you see it on books and movies too, the main character is clueless when it comes to domestic stuff, they make it seem like its cute or something, I'm not the best cook or anything but we all have to do that domestic stuff especially when you move out on your own!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

When I was in college, there really were people like that!. Most of them because they had "domestic help" (parents) to do everything for them, but there were those who couldn't do it no matter how hard they tried!.

It can be exaggerated in books and movies for various effects (comedy, especially), but we all know people who are domestically challenged!.

My mother insisted that I learn to cook, clean and do laundry just like my sisters (not fair for them to work everyday when I only had to do "guy chores" once or twice a month)!. My father did teach the girls basic car and house maintenance, enough to keep the perverts and swindlers from taking advantage of them if they ever lived too far away from family!. Very progressive parenting (although we didn't realize that at the time - ha-ha)!.

I'm not the best cook either, but my kids willingly eat whatever I make (but they'd rather go hungry than eat my sister-in-law "food" - a spice rack is not the equivalent of being a gormet)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It depends on the genre!.

If it's in romance, the character might be unable to do that stuff so that a lover can help them learn how, and also cause 'bondage!.'

If it's comedy, it might be used to make something funny!. I've seen it used more commonly in comedy, and it works, because characters end up making really stupid mistakes!. (I've mostly seen it used in the rich person randomly having to live like a poor person context!.)

If it's fantasy or sci fi, it might be because the character doesn't need those skills until they are put into a circumstance without magic or technologies used in their universe!.

It's just a literary device!. It shouldn't be taken to heart because you DO need to know how to do that sort of thing!. I've found the anti domestic stuff to be a total cliche!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I know, it's weird!. I think it's cuz bad cooks don't feel alone (or whatever!. Or people like to amuse themselves at the character's blunders!. Something like that!. Odd fact!. But some people just can't cook, and some can!. I never thought it was 'cute' to lack some skill!.

Haha I never really realised that!. A good example would be the little rascals making cakes and whatnot!. Than again they're all like 8 years old so!.!.!. I don't know!. Bad example!. I do see what you're saying though, funny to see a pattern like that!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Because in real life, some people ARE like that!.
Like me, for instance!. Some excel at that, some don't!. Nothing wrong with either!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think its cute--it adds a little more to the story!. And it also makes the characters seem more real- not many people I know can truly make a fancy meal!.!.!.

Besides, I can't cook to save my life :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

erm !.!.!. i guess it makes them look younger !.!.!. more in need of looking after !.!.!. and that makes it look cute !.!.!. !? !.!.!. it really doesn't apply in real life though, lolWww@QuestionHome@Com
