There are several movie versions of Little Women; each is a bit different than the book!. Katharine Hepburn played Jo in the oldest version I've seen, June Allyson played Jo in another old (not quite as old) version and Winona Ryder played Jo in the newest!. The Winona Ryder version is the most different from the book, in my estimation!.

Perhaps because I've studied some history of the period, the changes are more evident to me!. When a period piece is made, if they don't keep it within the parameters of that time in behavior, manners and even wording, it rings slightly false!. For instance, 20th century feminism would have been completely alien to Louisa May Alcott, though there would be some similarities in beliefs!. The 20th century, however, was not the 19th century and how people spoke and behaved was different!.

Like any other movie adaptation, the story must be compressed to fit the time available!. Therefore, scenes are changed or left out!. Since you are having a test on Little Women, and supposing that doesn't mean the test is on one of the movies called Little Women, I would highly recommend you read the book!. Otherwise, you will not be able to answer all the questions accurately!. (You can even read it at Gutenberg!.org or online-literature!.com!.)

It's an excellent book; well worth reading at least once!. I hope you enjoy it and do well on your test!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

YEs exactly!. I think i get what your asking!. That is my fav book, and the movie version is diffrent and i liked it better!. The book added stuff i didnt see in the movie!. So i was confused, and i had watched the movie before reading!. But I would rather watch the movie, it has the major details, not all the little ones in the book!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's worth a read, and if you just watch the movie, chances are your teacher will be able to tell!. Really, it's a good book - give it a shot! :)Www@QuestionHome@Com
