Question: Who wrote this book, and what is it called!?

I am looking for a book that my ex girlfriend owned many years ago which I really enjoyed reading!. I think there were actually 2 or more books, and they were short rules for living, written by a father for his son, e!.g!. "Never drive with hot coffee between your knees" and "Invent a sign so that you can tell your wife you love her from across a crowded room"!. Does anyone know who wrote this book and what it's called, please!?
