The men for whom Shakespeare wrote (and may have acted himself with, the jury is still out on that one) were called The Chamberlain's Men!. After Elizabeth I died (1603), King James I took over and they renamed themselves The King's Men!.

Thomas Marlowe was one of the more famous writers working at the same time as Mr S, his most famous work is Dr Faustus!. Francis Bacon was another contemporary, and both men have been proposed as the 'real' authors of some of Shakespeare's plays!. This has never been proved!. For one thing it's likely that the date of Marlowe's death (he was stabbed in a tavern brawl, but he may have been involved as a spy) makes it impossible for him to have written some of the later plays!.

Hell G: This is what I know!. "Shakes" world consisted of a lot of people that couldn't read or write!. They called them the groundlings!.!.and I beleive for a frathing they would get the cheap sets and line up to throguh lettuce and tomatoes if the play was bad!. Since most plays had to do with royalty they were partial to those paying for shows as propogandra!. The cast persay were older people and those who learned from others the art of imitation was very high back in those days!. As for the female characters young men played those parts as is was not good for a women to interact in such a profession!. So yes young men played the women's parts even Lady Macbeth!. He would perform at the thater and make copies of scripts for those that would pay or play!Www@QuestionHome@Com
