You don't mention whether you are looking for fiction or non!. I tend toward non-fiction!.

Fingerprints of the Gods and Guns, Germs and Steel were two that completely blew me away!. The God Delusion, The Third Chimpanzee, Omnivore's Dilemma and Collapse are great as well!. Whether you agree with what these books say or not, they will make you think!.

As for fiction, The Stranger by Camus was good!. The Post Office or Factotum by Bukowski, although not "deep" are great!. The Unbearable Lightness of Being!. Almost anything by Vonnegut!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, when I was fifteen I was in an AP Literature class and during the summer for homework we had to read 3 books out of a list of 100 hundred, all of them very deep and thought provoking!.

The Titles were: Farenhiet 450, 1984, and "A Handmaid's Tale" They were all types of books that you literally had to decipher the meanings and the symbolism, and they were a bit scary too because they were written about how our world could become with our laws and everything falling down!. It was really good!. I read them again just this year, and the five year difference helped me even better understand them now than I did at 15!.

They are hard to read though, and that's coming from an avid reader, so maybe pull out a piece of paper to help keep the ideas in track (or I am just retarded, lol)

Have fun!

"Across the nightingale floor" by Lean Hern, 4 books that transport you to an ancient japanese era that has adventure, romance, wisdom, and seriously good writing and excellant research, I found these books so inspiring I have stopped being afraid of the japanese culture and learned so much, to the extent of watching japanese films, and reading more about their history, I thoroughly recomend these books even just for the stories! First of all, someone suggested Twilight, and I feel it's my duty to tell you that Twilight is about as thought-provoking as MTV!.

Second, here are some of the best thought-provoking books I've read:

To Kill a Mockingbird -- Harper Lee (classic)
The Picture of Dorian Gray -- Oscar Wilde (classic)
The Five People You Meet in Heaven -- Mitch Albom
The Kite Runner -- Khaled Hosseini
The Green Mile -- Stephen King
The Graves Are Not Yet Full -- Bill Berkeley (nonfiction)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes, I've read a few!.

George Orwell's 1984 or Animal Farm is pretty thought-provoking!.

Chuck Palahniuk writes pretty twisted books!. You might know of him from Fight Club or Choke, but his other books are just as great!.

Kurt Vonnegut is a great author!. Things like Slaughterhouse Five, Cat's Cradle, and other less popular books!.

Ernest Hemingway, of course!.
