Question: URGENT help needed with character's name in story!?
Hi ;
I'm writing a story based in Ireland, in the 1980s, and I need a good name for a gypsy girl living in a caravan!. Can you suggest any names!?

Oh, and I also need a bit of help on dialect and how people would have spoken in Ireland at that period!.

Thanks very much (:

well you need to make sure you get the language right first like vardo is a trailer (caravan) the Gypsy's never use the word caravan its always trailer or vardo so you will have to research our Speech coz i could goon for ever with that
as for names common travelling girls names are
lilly, rose , ada ,pearl, kitty girl is another popular name and mini
if your writing a book make sure you separate the man from the woman coz 99% of the time the woman will be in the trailer making cups of tea and the men will be outside around a fire also the irish are called tinkers they are completely different to the romany Gypsy's like myself
i hope this helps you good luckWww@QuestionHome@Com

I'd love to read your book - it sounds good!.

anyway, names!.!.!.!.

Ira
Eva
Esmeralda - or Esme
Layla
April
Adriana
perhaps colors, like Violet or Scarlet
or flowers, like Rose or Daisy or Poppy!.

Dialect!. Well, its set in the 80's, so no chav, slut or anything like that!. However, some Irish Gypsies (I'm getting this from films and books here, lol, so just hoping its right) say "dag" instead of "dog", and "mam" instead of "mum", ECT, ECT!.

good luck with your story

For the name I think it should begin with M or L, like Myra, Mara, Mandy or Lola, Linda or my favourite Lucy!.
As for the dialect, since it was only 20 years ago it wouldnt be much different!. Obviously it wouldnt be like shakesperian times, but just leave out words like "chav" or "gangsta" or "emo" or "slut"!.
Best of luck with your book! :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

"April" is an irish girl-name I have often heard!.
For dialect, it might not be possible to explain it here in short length!. Kindly research it!.
All the best for your story!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
