Okay, this is directly from the MLA book, "4!.6!.17!. A Republished Book!. 'To cite a republished book--for example, a paperback version of a book originally published in a clothbound version--give the original publication date, followed by a period, before the publication information for the book you are citing!." Then it gives examples!.
Then it goes on to say, "Although not required, supplementary information pertaining to the original publication may precede the original publication date!." And some more examples!. And one more, "To cite a republished book that was originally issued under a differnt title, first state the new title and publication facts, followed by Rpt!. of ("Reprint of "), the original title, and the original date!." And then an example!.
Hope this helps!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm most familiar with APA style, for which I'd say you need to use the copyright date of the printing that you are actually referencing!. If there is more than one date beside the copyright symbol, use the first date listed!. However, for MLA style, you may need to use both dates; see reference below!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
