Question: What's your opinion on happy endings!?
I just finished a book in which there was a happy ending that was just too cute to be true!. It makes me want to know what happens next, and makes me sad just to see it end!.

I really think that the only way to have a happy ending is to have some sadness along with it!. A completely happy story is no fun!.

What do you think!?

Oh - I agree!. It's not realistic a lot of the times!.

Particularly in movies!. I get annoyed when someone isn't shot or killed at the end!. And everyone skips away into the sunset!. I especially dislike when the person gets the lover they've always wanted and the lover is still alive!. No, to be realistic the lover needs to die!. That's why Pan's Labyrinth is a perfect film - it has both endings - happy and sad!.

For books - I read a lot of books with happy endings - but realistic happy endings!. Like the murderer is captured, the main characters is okay, but their world still isn't perfect!.

But then again - I've been known to have a black heart, sometimes!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I prefer sad endings, because I relate with them better!.

When everything works our perfectly and nothing sad happens along the way, it's stupid!. It makes it feel like the things the characters went through or the bad decisions they made are unimportant and unnecessary!. If bad things happen, I have a deeper connection to the story and I feel like I learn more from the story!. If the characters don't get everything they want, I can look at the book and say, "Well, what did they do wrong!? Why didn't they get what they wanted!? What can I do to not make that mistake!?"!. I can apply that into my own life, whereas I feel that you can't get much out of a completely happy ending!. I also dislike happy endings where everyone gets what they want because it's just unrealistic-- no one ends up with a perfect happy ever after!. I have an easier time relating with sad stories because they are more realistic!. I think saddish endings have a more profound impact on the reader in most situations!.

I don't mind happy endings, as long as they are fitting!. The ending to a book should make sense-- and I feel like the endings that usually make the most sense are saddish with elements of happiness!.

The ending to Breaking Dawn was ridiculous, IMO!. Bella, Jacob, and Edward never had any consequences for any of the mistakes they made in the first three books but all three ended up happy ever after!. That's what I was talking about earlier-- perfect happy endings make the things the character does along the way seem unimportant!. It's a cop out to have all of your characters live happy ever after with everything they could ever ask for!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

ya, i like it happy endings, but i think the character should have gotten something out of the experiences, and i like it better when their scarred for life!. or even when its a sad ending but the characters are optimistic, like in Lemony Snicket

i think the epilouge in harry potter was too chliche, i would have liked it better if it had ended with him scarred with his friends, then having the end on JKR's website or something, that end was interesting, but kinda garishWww@QuestionHome@Com

I agree completely with you!. East of Eden has a very sad ending!. But in its sadness is powerful redemption!. Same deal with Crime and Punishment: a bleak situation with the slighest hint of a good ending somewhere in the future!. I cried after reading cold mountain but it was one of the most beautiful endings, too!. My favorite endings are the one where not everything works out right, where people are still in hurt or in wrong, but they persevere and see hope despite, or in some cases, because of their hardships!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I like completely happy ones or I won't be able to sleep for months,
especially if it was a good book!.
When Breaking Dawn had an ending that was too good to be true I was elated, but then a lot of people were mad that it worked out so perfectly! I was like what the fukc people, you want a miserable ending!? What is wrong with you! Www@QuestionHome@Com

I agree!. I think a happy ending is only good if it is an unexpected happy ending!. Only when some twist in the story leads to a happy ending is when it's really good!.

The sad or horror endings are usually more memorable!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

I agree!.

Like when everyone is dancing and singing I LOVE MY LIFE OMG THIS IS SO AWESOME is kinda boring!.

Though, I like stories with happy endings that make sense!. Like kinda happy, kinda sad, you dig!? I dunno!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Mostly I prefer happy endings over the sad endings

On the other hand, sad, tragic endings can leave a lasting impact on the reader, so there are some times when I'd rather see someone die at the end or have a tragedy occur Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think when you get a happy ending when it's predicable you get a sense of Anti-Climax!. When the happy ending isn't expected then it's wonderful!. So you are right!. That's just my view on things!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I prefer a happy ending over a sad one, but I agree that a story should be ALL happy!. There should be drama, etc!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
