Question: Please Help: Metaphor between artist (brush/canvas) vs!. author (pen/paper)!?
The main idea of my essay is to get the point across of how a writer builds character using words!.
I would like to use the metaphor of a painter using his paint to create an image as a author would use his ink to create a character!.!.!. but I can't seem to word it right!.

What I have brainstormed (disorganized):

Just as a picture is worth a thousand words, an author’s character comes to life through words of tone, mood, and description!.

An author uses a pen as his paintbrush to build character!. A painter may have a story to tell through his art on his canvas as an author creates character through words on his paper!.

Just as a painter uses his brush to form an object, an author uses his pen to create a character!.

An author paints an image of his characters, using ink as his brush and paper as his canvas!. The various colors of tone, mood, and description combine to form a character masterpiece!.

I have the idea but I just can't seem to put it together or word it right so that it flows and make sense!.!.!.
any suggestions/new formations of how to display this metaphor!?
any help is GREATLY appreciated!
I'm having horrible writer's block!.!.!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Those don't sound like metaphors!.!.!.

Maybe something similar to this!?

"An author paints his characters onto his canvas, words showing in full beauty the depth of the image!.

An artist writes his stories onto his paper, images showing the stoic surface while hinting at what is hiding!."

Or something like that!.!.!. I'm not amazing with metaphors!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

first of all i think you should have "a picture is worth a thousand words" in quotations because a!.) it is not your quote and b!.) it is an idiom!. "An author uses a pen as his paintbrush to build character!. A painter may have a story to tell through his art on his canvas as an author creates character through words on his paper!." that sounds good!. i don't know if you were planning on using all of these analogies together!. if you are, you should seriously reconsider!. you get the idea across in the two sentences that i quoted above!. being repetitive when you are writing is a sin! (realizing this will raise your act score by at least 3 points, ha)Www@QuestionHome@Com
