Question: Name one thing that you dislike about the book you're currently reading!?
And what book is it!?

I'm reading The Return by Victoria Hislop!.

I can't stand the 30-something woman going out to "find herself" aspect of it - or the war romance element of it (the book is partly set during the Spanish Civil War)!. But the rest of it is fantastic!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Out of desperation I'm reading a book my husband bought to take on holiday!. It's by Clive Cussler, called "Iceberg" and I'll be so glad when I've struggled through it!. Sorry Clive but you're just not a very good writer (in my humble opinion) - maybe it's because I'm not a sea-faring girl, but the plot and descriptive text simply do not grip me!. If I can get to the library for a replacement I won't even bother to see this through to the end, and that's most unlike me!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm currently rereading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (book 7, in case you're not sure)!. I'm a Harry Potter nerd, always have been and always will be, but it really bugs me that I'm only a little over a hundred pages into the book and there have already been countless references to past books that don't really seem to have a place there!. Most of them are just barely above, "Hey Ron, remember that time I ________!?" "Sure do, Harry, but that wasn't nearly as cool as that time you ______!"Www@QuestionHome@Com

The constant self-conscious references to things that the author obviously thinks shows that a character is eccentric, or cultured, or gnomic!.

example: a character is named Lenore!. The narrator asks her what it feels like to 'go around in a name out of Poe'!. A character is described repeatedly as looking 'like a Waterhouse nymph'!.

AND some of the gnomic utterances are too pretentious for words: (quote from Wiki)
'And those of us who think about the empty spaces tend to paint pictures, write books, or compose music!. There are many talented people who never will become painters, writers, or composers; the talent is in them but not the empty spaces where art happens!.'

I bought the book because I read one of his books for children and loved it - I don't think he made the transition very well! But it's so awfully earnest that I'm going to see it out, in case I hurt its feelings!.!.!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Brilliant Question!!! Have a star!!!

Anyway, I am reading Eldest by Christopher Paolini and I just can't stand the fact that the protagonist has a power to save the world from an evil crazed king and he doesn't want it!. It is just unrealistic!. I hate stories like that!. If i had the power to save the world, to be famous, to dine with the rich, I would be thrilled!. Other than that I reckon the book is pretty cool!. Perhaps the second thing i hate is that i'm about to finish it!. I've read it before but it still keeps me up at night!. And it really gives a sense of mystery for the next book !.!.!. Brisingr (You'll understand what that means if you read the books)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Good question!.

I'm now reading three books (taking it easy this month!) but I won't bore you with all of them!.
The story I'm reading is The Children of Hurin by Tolkien&Tolkien (father and son) - it's one of the 'prequels' to Lord of the Rings!.
I don't like the way it skips through some time periods and dwells on others!. Obviously, they couldn't go into detail about everything, but then LOTR is a huge book, and if you're going to do a prequel, it's all about the detail, isn't it!?

It's still a good read, thoughWww@QuestionHome@Com

Good question I just got the Duchess by amanda forman!. the type is so small and at the bottom of each page is the paragraph notes in an even smaller type face!. I don`t not finish a book many times but this one is going to be very hard work indeed, reading it

Oh my gosh!. I'm reading "The Sound and the Fury" for an English course and I cannot stand how many characters there are!. I hate when there are too many characters to keep track of--and the storyline is hard to follow anyway so the number of characters muddles it even more for me!. Ugh!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows!. The thing I dislike about it, is that it is long, and I want to read my new book, but first I want to finish my Harry Potter book! But apart from that, the book is pretty much perfect!Www@QuestionHome@Com
