It would be "Sophie's World" by Jostein Garder, a book that I think anybody who purports to be a mature human being should have read - the single most important non-faith book about who we are and how we got this way!. brilliant stuff!

the Temeraire series by Novik (she wrote Neverwinter Nights video game)

Dragons were ridden into battle in Napoleon times!.
The main characters are able to visit many different cultures at that time and:-
helped abolish slavery,
make people aware or fair government systems
commentary on many social structures

It depends on what they already have/don't have!.

Something that would attract to more of the population!. Or, whoever goes into the library more: kids, elderly, young adults, adults, etc!.!.!.
