First of all, I'd recommend you read the book!. You won't be able to give an informed opinion of Jane Austen's world if you don't!. You can read it - and search for words and phrases in the story - at http://www!.online-literature!.com/austen/!.!.!. The Literature Network or read it here (or download it and read it while you aren't online) at http://www!.gutenberg!.org/etext/1342 Gutenberg!. You can also download an audio version of the book at http://www!.gutenberg!.org/etext/20686 Gutenberg (I'd recommend you at least listen to it)!.

Secondly, I do NOT agree with that statement!. The 2005 version of Pride and Prejudice is not faithful to the times, the behavior and civility of those times or Jane Austen's characters!.

It may seem like a small thing, but do you recall the scene in the movie where the pigs are roaming around AND being allowed to go into the house!? Believe me, none of the middle or upper classes would have allowed such a thing!. Only those who were so poor that they couldn't afford any type of barn would house their farm animals inside their homes!.

This movie portrays Elizabeth as both pouty and rather rude, too!. In the book she is playful and polite!. Do you recall the scene in the movie after Mr!. Collins proposed to her, she refused and her mother is trying to force her to marry him!? The movie actually shows Elizabeth yelling at her mother!. In that time period - Jane Austen's world - this would never have occurred in a "society" household!. There is one thing after another like this in the movie: Elizabeth and Mr!. Darcy walking and meeting outside while in their nightclothes (never in those days), Lady Catherine visiting the Bennet family at night (nope) and the Bennet family entertaining her in their nightwear (you never entertained guests in anything other than proper attire) and more!.

You may want to check out this site http://janeaustensworld!.wordpress!.com/ca!.!.!. to find out a bit about that era and the manners of the times!. This site http://www!.pemberley!.com/ is good, too!.

Though it is not always accurate, Wkipedia http://en!.wikipedia!.org/wiki/Pride_%26_P!.!.!. shows some of the differences between that film and the book!.

I hope this helps!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Okay, assuming you have read the book and watched the movie, you need to basically write a paragraph on how different you think the movie is from the book!.
Start off with your thesis (is it an accurate interpretation the book and the "world of Jane Austen!?)
How is the setting, characters, social conventions, film techniques the same/different than in the book!?

Its really all a matter of opinion!. Hope this helped!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would say that I disagree!. The characterizations in the book were much different from how those characters are portrayed in that film version!. I'm sorry I don't have time to go through the intricate details!. I do remember that I was very disappointed in this movie's Mr!. Darcy; there was no impression of distance or animosity from him at the beginning, and only pale, washed-out kindness and ardor later on!. He was just sort of pathetic and melancholy for the whole film!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
