Question: In what ways is Gerald McGrew an archetypal character!?
From If I Ran the Zoo by Dr!. Seuss, how is Gerald McGrew an archetypal character!?

How could young Gerald McGrew be an archetype/influence for/on another post-modern protagonist!? (For instance Patrick Bateman!.)Www@QuestionHome@Com

It is rather difficult to answer if you haven't read Dr!. Suess' quintessential If I Ran the Zoo!. I know, my literary education is severely lacking!. (Reminder to self: "remedy this!.")

I will take a shot and hopefully others less ignorant will answer!. If the little summary I read about the book is correct, Gerald McGrew is completely self-involved/egocentric!. Apparently he doesn't have a firm grip on reality, finds that nothing really satisfies him (so he is always grasping for more and more to fill the void), doesn't believe in a true distinction between what is right and what is wrong and doesn't deal well with laws (or, perhaps, doesn't think they truly apply to him)!. In effect, he is the first postmodern "hero!." (I could be wrong, but I imagine avant-garde rather than archetypes when I think of postmodern literature!. You know MUCH more than I do about the subject!. My school didn't cover postmodernism well!. Of course, it may have had more to do with my field of study - think science and you won't be far off the mark - than anything else!.)

There is more, but that's my inadequate crack at it!.

Of course, I may be completely wrong!. Ignorance doesn't give you the best vantage point!Www@QuestionHome@Com
