REad books that are similar to your interest!. Have a dictionary handy!. Read slow to make sure you understand what your reading you can always go back!.Having background knowlege on what your reading helps that way your not questioning everything your reading!. They somehow make their way into every question :P I would suggest have a look at a list of the top ranked novels of all time, like this one !.!. http://www!.randomhouse!.com/modernlibrary!.!.!. See what you have read and what you haven't and pick a couple to read :) One or two of them are pretty tedious though, but a lot of them are great reads!. Then I would suggest reading some critical appreciations of the book you read!. There are plenty of websites that offer good literary appreciations!. This will help you to pick up on themes that you missed when you read the book!. It will also help you identify subtle themes in books that you read in future!. Finally, the more you read the better you will become, generally speaking!. also, don't waste too much time on books that you aren't enjoying!. Reading should primarily be enjoyed, and life is a little too short to trudge through long boring books that you probably won't remember anyway!. I recently made a vow to myself not to doggedly toil through a 1000 page book just to finish it :>Www@QuestionHome@Com These are some basic technical tips that helps stimulate your mind while you read!. Ask yourself questions!. Ask "who, what, when, where, and why" Wonder why the author made the characters do such and such!. Be inquisitive!. Visualize the scenes in the book as they are happening!. Use sensory details!. (see, smell, hear, touch, taste) Put yourself in the shoes of one of the characters!. Take a sentence or paragraph and rewrite so that it makes more sense!. Clarify a chapter and review it in your head!. Read reviews of book and look for things you might like!.
