Question: Why didn't Harper Lee right a sequel!?
I thought "To Kill A Mockingbird" was quite good, so how come she didn't write a sequel!? I think it needs one!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

She didn't die!. She's still alive today!.

As for why she didn't continue, two main reasons come to mind!. Firstly, I believe (and this is just personal opinion), that the critical acclaim of To Kill a Mockingbird was startled and intimidated Harper Lee!. With expectations that high how could she ever top TKAM in the public and critic eye!?

However, more importantly, the story is done!. Any other story would have to go in a new direction, and would almost certainly have looked tacked on, diminishing the shine of TKAM!. At one point Miss Lee does note these episodical stories, too, with Scout reading something like the twentieth Tarzan novel, Tarzan and the Killer Ant Men (or something like!.)

She did start two or three new stories later, but didn't like any of them, and they all remain incomplete at present!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

There was a time, albeit long ago, when stories were often left alone once told!. Where not every story needed, or got, a sequel, s eries of sequels, a prequel, a spin-off, or delivery in book, movie, comic, and cartoon form!. The story was told, there was no need for a sequel!. The sequel takes place in your own imagination!. It's one of the magickal things about the way stories used to be told!. The reader was part of the experience!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

She died! She didn't have a chance to write a sequel! A lot of people, myself included, think that a sequel would have been a good idea, but Harper Lee never got around to writing one before her death!. It's a pity, really!. Apparently she said in an interview that she had some ideas for a sequel, but she never put it all together!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Um, no, Harper Lee is actually alive and well, and not surprisingly, she still lives in Alabama!. My general opinion is that she delivered such a powerful message with her first book, To Kill A Mockingbird, that she didn't feel the need to write another!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

well, she's pretty old now!. maybe she didn't think a sequel could live up to the original!. i've heard that she had alot of help writing it but i'm not sure if that's trueWww@QuestionHome@Com

I definitely agree!. That book was amazing!. I think that the book should definitely have a sequel!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i am glad she didn't!. Great way to conclude a book!. I hate books/movies that come out with sequels if they arent already a trilogy or cycleWww@QuestionHome@Com
