Question: Do you have to pay to reference someone else's creation in your own novel!?
Forgive me if this is a dumb question, but I'm a first-time novelist and I want to make sure my novel is flawless! The following sentence is the one I want to use in my novel!.

"Mother was always a bit of a dingbat in my opinion!. She was one of those Marge Simpson types!. You know the ones!. Submissive, well-meaning, sees the best in everyone!."

Would I have to pay to reference Marge Simpson!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

No payment is necessary to make reference to cultural icons!. What is necessary is that you portray them in either a neutral or positive way!. Your example would be perfectly fine!.

You couldn't write !.!.!.Marge Simpson types who whore their daughters and give their sons cocaine!. That could negatively impact Simpsons branding!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
