Question: Why doesn't literature have the same cult following as music!?
I have wondered this for some time, but I can't find an answer!. Except for a few abberations, there are very few writers have the same cult folllowing as musicians!. Why is that so!? Has it always been like that!? Back in the 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's, and 60's - those were times when the american writer was held as cultural icons/living monuments of western society!. Now it seems that writers don't get the same publicity, following, money, or respect that musicians get!. Do you think this can change!? If so how!? Or am I wrong!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

books have been around for so long and are pretty much the same in terms of there is a beginning middle and end story!. but with music it is always changing, easy to take around, can be started and stopped easily etc!.
there is definitely a lot more to be gotten out of reading than music but in todays society it is the easiest form of entertainment that is taken!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Let my introduce you to Siglerism!. Yeah, it is a joke about another science fiction author who realy did start a cult!.
But Sigler does have a loyal fan base who buy his books even though the audiobooks are available for free!.
Both musicians and authors it is very few lucky ones who get the money!.
Scott Sigler, Tee Morris, JC Hutchins, and the other podcaster authors Have my respect of course the musicians like Jonathon Coulton, Beatnik Turtles, Tom Smith, Monk, and many others who understand the internet and aren't suing anyone's grandma !. Www@QuestionHome@Com

these days people don't read anymore, and also there are so many authors and genres and sub-categories that authors don't get enough fans to have as you say a cult following!. i love to read, but i have so many favorite authors that its rather like i have a bunch of authors i like rather than favouritesWww@QuestionHome@Com

You are not wrong exactly, music does seem to inspire a more dedicated following than does literature, but there have been many Many periods in history where writers were the idols of the general public, IWww@QuestionHome@Com
