naturally people still read,
there are more good books than good movies out there and we are more comfortable with books than movies
even the scariest books can be toned down to our inner comfort level in our minds, or revved up to give us the thrill that horror movies don't provide!.
Every cast member is perfectly casted for the character they portray, even if they are described differently, we will picture them in the way that we like the best!.
There are more styles and levels of books than movies and songs combined!.
books get you into peoples heads, you have the power to know their every thought, every wish, their feelings and their deepest, darkest fears
and they show you worlds
worlds upon worlds that you could never imagine,
but someone did!. and they're showing you!.

books don't need to be compatible or hooked up to anything to work, you just open it and go!.
they don't need to be re-charged, or have batteries replaced
and no teacher is going to penalize you for reading!.

They can be used for many many years and can be passed on to your children and grandchildren

they never go out of style
or out of date

and new stories are popping up every day
and old stories are getting face lifts all the time!.

Novel writers become insanely wealthy, if they know what they're doing
and their fame is sweeter because no one cares about their love lives, or what their children are doing, or if they're thin or fat, young or old!.

books have been around for too long and have survived too much to be quashed by technology and movies!.!.!.
they are developing technology to bring the book into the new century
and to preserve it at the same time!. Audio books are popular on iPods, you can double your productivity, with a story playing in your ears, i tell you, I don't mind mowing the lawn or doing chores if i'm listening to an audio book!.!.!.

I don't think that people read as much as they should!. I think that the decline in reading is a big issue with today's literacy problems!. I think that reading a book is so much more rewarding than watching a movie!. And like a previous answer stated, reading a book and watching the movie differ significantly!.

I myself don't get to read as much as I would like to because of my college classes (at least not what I would like to read), but every homework free chance I get i try to fit in a novel!.

I think it is worth writing novels, and there are a lot of people that enjoy reading!. I say go for it!.

Lol, I wonder- I want to be a novelist, but was thinking it might be more profitable to write for movies and tv shows too!. I don't know, I think a lot of people still read, but the numbers are sliding!. I mean, what's the point right!?- every book just seems to get made into a movie anyway!. People probably just assume they can wait a year or so and go see it in theatres!. *sigh* I do hope reading'll someday become the "in thing" and writers will get the credit they deserve!. When someone mentions Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Narnia- blockbuster films are usually what pop into people's heads, rather than their brilliant creators!. Sad but true!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Of course, duh!. You should have phrased this question differently!. What about the people that don't like TV, can't have it because of where they live, or think that it is brain damaging!? Tee-hee, to stop reading books is stupid!. Look at what these screenwriters have done to great books! I'd much rather be a writer then a reader!. i personally enjoy films as well as books but to be honest with you !.!.nothing compares to a good read!.!.!. think about it!.!.!. you can read just about anwhere!.!.!. in the bath!.!.in bed!.!.on the tube!.!.on a bus!.!.under a tree!.!.!. while cooking!.!.!. anywhere!.!.!. you dont have that luxury when watching a film!.!. you can put a book down and look forward to picking it up again!.!.!. a book can last a day!.!.!.a week!.!.!.a month!.!.!. a film lasts for as long as its on!.!. and it never and i mean NEVER compares to the book!.!.!.!.

ive always been dissapointed when watching a film after ive read the book!.!.!.

read the book misery!.!.!. then watch the film and you will see how much of the book is left out of the film!.!.!. this happens a lot i find!.!.

if you walk through Barnes and Noble you will have the answer to your question!.!.!.!.!.!.They have about a million books(I exagerate) and they are a growing company, so someone is buying and reading books!. There are still intellegent people around who dont only watch TV!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Reading a book allows you to use your imagination, because any detail that isn't directly stated, you can make up yourself!. I read way more than I watch movies!. also, reading helps to grow brain cells faster!Www@QuestionHome@Com

oh my goodness of course people still read books, i would read a book over a film any day, a book can portray so much more detail and intrigue where as a film is limited to 2-3 hours a books enjoyment lasts so much longer!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
