Question: Best Horror Novelist!?
Hi, I am starting to read more books and have decided to try reading a horror novel!. I hear people all the time say how 'the novel is so much better than the film' and all that and so I thought I'd give it a go!.

I am looking for a good horror book i!.e!. not gore or slasher, more spooky ghost type of thing!. Could you suggest a good book or at least a novelist that writes good stories (not Stephen King though as I know about this one)!.

also, if possible, a horror book which is not that hard to read!. I find some books really complicated!.

Thanks!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
L!.J!. Smith seems to be a popular Young Adult Books author of horror, if that's what you're looking for!.

As for mainstream, of course anything by H!.P!. Lovecraft or Graham Masterton among many others!.

The line between horror and thriller can blur so I'll try to be precise and stick to horror and I'll make it a short list!. This is hard for me to do and not include Stephen King!.

In no particular order, other than the order they popped into my head, here are a few (very few) of the best books and their authors:

The Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris (The one before that was Red Dragon!.)

Ghost Story by Peter Straub

Watchers by Dean Koontz

Boy's Life by Robert McCammon

The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson

The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty

CLASSICS:

Dracula by Bram Stoker

Frankenstein by Mary Shelley

The Strange Case of Dr!. Jekyll and Mr!. Hyde by Robert Louis StevensonWww@QuestionHome@Com
