It was published in 1954!. This was the beginning of the Cold War and the Atomic Age!. This is the background for the entire allegorical nature of the novel!. The events happen during an unnamed nuclear war, and the story reflects the actions of the adults in the story as well as the world of Golding's time!. At the end of the story, they are picked up by a warship that ends their meaningless disputes that eventually turned to murder and riot mentality, yet the ship is going off to fight in a conflict which is portrayed as just as unnecessary and futile as the children's!. It is a powerful message against group-think and the baseness of human nature that arises during power struggles!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
