Question:

The idea is "what if God gave up on man!?", what if a divine power whoever it may be just looked at us as a human race and just said forget it I'm DONE with you guys, fend for yourselves and your own faith!.

I need a fresh gimmick on how to portray ordinary characters/people in extraordinary circumstances!.!.!.!.something that grab a reader's attention if at all possible!.!.!.!.!.tired of using apocalyptic settings!. Lookiing for a very dire, bleak situation that connects a middle aged hermit (soldier like character)& a lost girl in her early 20's and find that one story/reason that connects them NOTinterested in connecting them as lovers tired of that as well!.!.!.!.nneed a spark of a subplot and having a hell of time figuring it out!?!?!?

I would like to incorporate a tattooed older guy in his 40's kinda of a hermit who has no belief in god in the first place like he lost his faith long time ago because of something vile or so wrong that happen in his life and he come across a very broken young women in her 20's who like him is broken herself but both of their paths cross and they somehow restore a balance or order of faith back in the world and the divine power is just mystified at the lengths they go to in believing again!.!.!.!.!.not sure of what kind of situation I can put them in to demostrate faith being lost severely and then restored!.!.!.!.and this has to be in the length of a short story, this is a toughie for me, really blocked here!.!.!.!.

This certainly sounds like an intriguing idea!. To be honest it sounds more like a novel than a short story!. But I'll leave that to you!.

I think the key to finding a dire situation which brings the two characters together would be to find something that one character desperately needs!. The man being a hermit and all, he's probably pretty good at taking care of himself!. So he probably wouldn't need anything!. But the woman is younger, less experienced!. Maybe she needs something like medicine and she figures the hermit guy is the only one who can help since he is so good at taking care of himself!. So even though no one else is brave enough to go find him, she searches him out!.

Or maybe she's fed up with everything and has decided to become a hermit herself so she goes to him to learn how to be a hermit!. (That actually could add some humor--an apprentice hermit! The hermit would try to get rid of her right away but she is persistent!.)

Or maybe she is trying to hide from someone (authorities of some kind!?) and she goes to the hermit and asks if she can hide at his place since it's very remote and no one would look for her there!.

Or maybe they both need the same thing and they meet while pursuing it!. Although I still can't think of something the hermit would need!. Hmm!.

Well, I'm sure you can think of something that fits the story, but the point is that somebody needs something and goes in search of it, which leads to the meeting of the two!. And the need has to be great enough to take a significant risk!.

Keep thinking!. Keep writing!. Try writing the story a few different ways until you find one that really zings!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Could the man be an uncle/father's friend!? Therefore it would be a friendship as opposed to a romantic relationship!.

well i'm kinda of confused by what your asking but i'm gonna try!.

so what if instead of being lovers that he it's his daughter that he never knew he had, and she knew about her dad but as never seen him!.

would that work for your story!?
