Try Stephen King!.
You could always go with Dracula, too!. Frankenstein is also a good book, but it's not the monster story American culture has morphed it into!.!.!. it's actually a really sad book!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would recommend Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman!.
It deals with a darker, mysterious sub-world under London - it's an amazing read!. You have to make it past the beginning, which is not that interesting!.!. but once you're in the story, you'll be very much sucked in!.
Not as easy to read as teen literature, but worth it!
Then there's also Bloodsucking Fiends by Christopher Moore, followed by You Suck! A love Story - about a girl who has to deal with her new life as a vampire!. Pretty damn funny!.
Moore also wrote A Dirty Job - about a guy who finds out that he's Death and how he's dealing with it!. Fits time-wise between the two vampire books!.
And for something that'll make your heart race: Summer of Night by Dan Simmons!.
True Horror! I love this book!. If this doesn't get you into the halloween spirit, then nothing will ;)
And last but not least: Relic by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child!. About a monster that haunts the Museum of Natural History in New York!. Will leave you breathless at the end!.
also!.!. really any Stephen King book - especially IT, Pet Semetary and Tommyknockers will do the trick!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
