Question: What is your favorite author and what are your favorite books and why!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Jane Austen is my favorite writer, and of her works, "Pride and Prejudice" is my favorite, though everything she's written was and is brilliant!.

I'm a big fan of classic works and classic authors!. I believe that those writers knew what they were talking about---not to say that modern authors aren't as smart or intellectual or talented---their work had so much *meaning* behind it, is all!.

I'm a big fan of satirists: Jane Austen, Oscar Wilde, and Mark Twain had this down pat!. I'm also a huge fan of Edgar Allen Poe!. His work is genuinely creepy and so deep!. It's great for inspiring thought and also great to cuddle up with on a rainy day!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

My favorite author is either Stephenie Meyer or P!.C!. Cast because they both have their way of writing books that are totally different than the world we live in and make it feel as if we are the character!. My favorite books would have to be obviously, the twilight series except breaking dawn because I think the book ruined the whole series, and the marked series because it's different than twilight but just as good, if not better!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

James Lee Burke and his mystery/thriller: "Jolie Blon's Bounce"!.

This Southern author creates stories that captivate a reader from page one to the last juicy word!. You can check out a synopsis of this book by delving into the author's website at: jamesleeburke!.com

If I could choose a favorite runner-up it would definitely be S!. & J!. Weatherton's "Blood Prophecy" This fantasy/thriller totally rocks and changes the reader forever!. Just the first five pages will leave you breathless!. There's a synopsis of the book at: bloodprophecy!.comWww@QuestionHome@Com

Don't have a favorite author, each writer offers something unique to contribute to the literary sphere!. If I was going to be absolutely honest, I'd say me!. :P

Favorite books:
-My Name is Asher Lev by Chaim Potok, because Asher's struggle for identity really helped me understand myself better and what I want!.

-Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro!. This story is incredibly compelling and the only way I can describe it is "The Sixth Sense in book form!." I seriously skipped class to read this book, I could not put it down!

-The Giver by Lois Lowry!. Watching the growth of the character Jonas really helped me appreciate why I am here and what I have, and this book is just phenomenal!. I can't say any more without giving something away! It's just a good look at why things are the way they are!.

-House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros!. I have a special place in my heart for this book, because it depicts the struggle of minorities to find place in the United States!. Cisneros has an incredibly unique voice, and is not afraid to be up front and honest about her experiences!.

-Gilead by Marilynne Robinson!. This is a very interesting book, and one that should be read more than once!. I came away the first time feeling one thing about the main character, and something completely different the second time!. Robinson's depictions are rich and evocative and really establish the setting in which John Ames tells us his story (written to his son)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Okay well, Harry Potter is definitely a very well written MODERN series!. Phillip Pullman is one of THE best writers I have seen!. He wrote the Golden Compass series!. It's a work of art!. Daphne Du Maurier's books are very well written!. They are also a work of art!. Try reading Rebecca!. It's a little old fashioned but yeah, definitely a good book!. If you're only looking for a good story then the Twilight Series!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

"In 1877, two gentlemen, Messrs Tonnison and Berreggnog, head into Ireland to spend a week fishing in the village of Kraighten!. While there, they discover in the ruins of a very curious house a diary of the man who had once owned it!. Its torn pages seem to hint at an evil beyond anything that existed on this side of the curtains of impossibility!. This is a classic novel that worked to slowly bridge the gap between the British fantastic and supernatural authors of the later 19th century and modern horror fiction!. Classic American horror writer H!. P!. Lovecraft lists this and other works by Hodgson among his greatest influences!."

"The Ghost Pirates !. !. !. is a powerful account of a doomed and haunted ship on its last voyage, and of the terrible sea-devils (of quasi-human aspect, and perhaps the spirits of bygone buccaneers) that besiege it and finally drag it down to an unknown fate!. With its command of maritime knowledge, and its clever selection of hints and incidents suggestive of latent horrors in nature, this book at times reaches enviable peaks of power!." — H!.P!. The Night Land
by William Hope Hodgson
[O]ne of the strangest visions ever published in science fiction or fantasy is presented!. The Sun has gone out: the Earth is lit only by the glow of residual vulcanism!. The last few millions of the human race are gathered together in a gigantic metal pyramid, the Last Redoubt, probably the first arcology in literature, under siege from unknown forces and Powers outside in the dark!. These are held back by a Circle of energy, known as the "air clog," powered from the Earth's internal energy!. For millennia, vast living shapes - the Watchers - have waited in the darkness near the pyramid: it is thought they are waiting for the inevitable time when the Circle's power finally weakens and dies!. Other living things have been seen in the darkness beyond, some of unknown origins, and others that may once have been human!.?a Excerpted from The Night Land on Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia!.

Bryce Courtenay - April Fool's Day

Why!? - Because it was such a heart wrenching book and a true story too!. I've never been so angry, sad, uplifted and felt such pain at reading a book before!. Half the time I wanted to jump through the pages and shake the living daylights out of some of the people because of the injustices!.
