It forces Huck to become self-reliant, and it seems at first to make him place little value on family relationships!. Yet in many of his encounters when he makes up a background for himself, he creates a fictitious family with two parents and maybe a sibling or two, and he recognizes the strength of family ties in others Think of what Huck reflects after Jim breaks down and weeps over the son and daughter he fears he will never see again!.

His father's behavior also seems to have made him accept drunkenness rather matter-of-factly!. Yet in a way Pap's behavior has had relatively little effect on Huck!. Although Huck has had ample opportunity to see close up that people can be just no good, even to concluded that they all are, he can't help feeling for them and becoming involved in their problems!. Although Huck is Pap's son, he's himself!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It made him quite independent at a very young age; able to take care of himself and his own needs; wary of emotional entanglements; did what he needed to do to survive without worrying too much about whether it was morally right or wrong!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
