Question: Does the book of "Hebrews" 6:4-6 mean that once you fall away or "backslide" you can't be re-born again!?
Someone please help me find the correct answer to this!!! It's really scary to me because I'm in this situation now!. I was "gone" for 8 years and have desperately been seeking the Lord for good this time!. When I accepted Jesus the first time i was 20 and I wasn't 100% sure that that was what I wanted, but I did it because I felt it was the right thing to do!. "Marc" 18:21-22 says that Jesus tells everyone to forgive every time over and over, so why wouldn't he forgive me!? "Hebrews" says otherwise!. PLEASE HELP!!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

When I read that scripture it seems to me that It's saying those who have fallen away aren't even asking for forgiveness!. It says it's impossible to renew them to repentance SEEING they crucify the Son of God afresh!.

To me this implies that they are still in their rebellion ('seeing' is a continual verb) and not seeking any type of repentance/forgiveness!.

Once you repent, God forgives you and forgets the sin!.

The Bible says He will remember your sins no more!.

Heb 8:12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more!.

Heb 10:17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more!.

He doesn't remember your sins anymore!. The problem is that we don't get over our guilt!.

A great scripture to confess is found in Hebrews 9:14!. It says that The Blood of Jesus purges our conscience from all unrighteousness!. So when we truly accept his forgiveness - there comes a point when we don't even remember that terrible time in our lives!.

Hebrews 9: 14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God!?

also remember that you are saved by the Grace of God!. You did nothing to earn it - so nothing you can do can take that salvation and deliverance away from you if you confess your sins!. - He cleanses you from all unrighteousness!.

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness!.

I don't know what translation you are reading!. I've just consulted both RSV and KJV; the RSV specifically refers to "apostasy" and my KJV concordance/Greek index explains the word used for "fall away" by means of the same term!.

"Apostasy" refers to a desertion of principle or faith; it's not a mere failure to remain constant, but a willful repudiation!. It's not considered appropriate to fling such an accusation at mere backsliders; it's reserved for those who willfully convert to some other, contrary belief!.

I would never counsel you to backslide again, just because you can get away with it, but I am sure that uncertainty and slow progress are forgivable!.

On the other hand, I do regard those who emphasize constant obedience to some authority over forgiveness of sins as potentially apostate themselves!. Anyone who would tell you you're unforgivable and lost is preaching a different gospel from the one we have received!.

No, God is a merciful God! But if you keep tripping over the same rock he eventually gets tired of it!. He is a God of mercy, but he is also a God of wrath!. But yes God does forgive, and he always loves!. I hope I helped atleast a little bit, but if you have any other questions you can e-mail me at dodge_ram_2009@yahoo!.com!. if you are sincere and want to be forgiven then Jesus will forgive you, that is why God sent his only begotten son Jesus to die on the cross so that we could be forgiven of sin!.

just pray to be forgiven and you will be!.

god bless youWww@QuestionHome@Com

there is also a saying to forgive and forget!. That is hard to do!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It sounds like you didn't really accept him into your heart when you were twenty because when you accept him to be your savior truly, you are 100% sure and do it because you have deep seated convictions, not because you feel it's the right thing to do!. When a person truly accepts Jesus and begins their journey of sanctification, they do not fall away because Jesus carries them!. They may make mistakes, but Jesus will forgive them as long as they come with a humble and contrite heart!. What really makes God angry is when a person knows his truth and knows that it is right, but still turns their back on him and decides to follow the ways of the world without a second glance!. It sounds like you never truly turned your back on him, and the fact that you're so desperately seeking him now confirms that you will find him!. He would not give you that desire if he never meant to fullfill it, for he loves you deeply!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
