Question: Twilight: love it, then hate it!?
I read Twilight two years ago (when I was 13) and I immediately became obsessed with the series!. I was like "OMFG THESE BOOKS ARE AMAZING!!!" but now i'm like, "god these books really suck!. The characters are so one-demensional and the writing style is really bad!." The only stuff I read now is Tolkien!. Has anyone else gone from Twilight-obsessed to Twilight-despising like me!? Or am I just an insane freak who refuses to like a book if the writing isn't creative enough!? Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Nope, I'm the same way!. I read the book two years ago as well and instantly I was captivated!. I wasn't as bad as the fans are now, but I was certainly Twilight-ified!.

That was back when New Moon was just released!. I read all the rest of the series and loved all the books (save BD, but we'll leave that for another discussion)!.

I guess I still like the books---I mean, I'd read them again, but they are definitely not the best ones in the world!. Stephenie Meyer isn't that great of a writer, but she's an awesome story-teller, and I think that's why her books are so popular (I read The Host and though her writing is still the same way, her characters are a little more developed and a lot deeper than the ones in Twilight!. I liked that book better than her Twilight series)!. I've always read classic books, so I hate when people compare Meyer to Shakespeare and Austen, etc!., because she is far from them!. I appreciate her books for what they are worth, and I enjoy reading them, but I definitely know that there are better ones out there!.

Mostly what's turned me off is the shear publicity her books have gotten in the past year!. It's too much---the crazy fans have turned me off to the books and have made me not like it as much!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with you!. I think that maybe the reason you don't like Twilight now is because you are used to a like the writing style of Tolkien now!. I can't see how in the world you think that the characters are one-dimensional, but I guess that it might just be difference of opinion!. And as for the writing style, I think that her style is so descriptive with emotions, and I think that it is so cool how the books capture every thought that Bella has!. I can only hope you change your mind again, cause these books are definitely something that you shouldn't go through your life thinking "oh these books suck"!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I know a lot of people like that, actually!. I didn't particularly like the series the first time I read it, but I liked it enough to keep reading (though that was admittedly mostly for Jacob)!. A few months later I read it again and was like, "This is the supidest thing I have ever wasted my life on"!. Most of my friends who originally liked them dislike them now too (though that's partially due to how awful BD was)!.

There are a few other anti-Twilighters who went from loving it to hating it!.!.!. If I remember corrently, Furelise and I Want A Grand Piano used to kind of like them but now hate them!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I was the exact same way, although it didn't take me that long to start to hate them!. I was one of those fan-girl who gave a thumbs-down to any comment against Twilight without reading them!. But, once I read the comments I realized that they were right!. I think it depends on what you read before and after you read Twilight!. If you read the classics before Twilight, you'll hate it!. It you read the classics after you read Twilight, you'll hate it after you read it!. If you never read the classics and you love books life the Clique Series, you'll become an obsessed fan-girl with no level of maturity!.

I mean, come on! What the heck was Breaking Dawn!!? It made no sense what-so-ever! So many plot holes!.!.!.!.!. Bella the anti-feminist is paired up with Eddie the future abusive boyfriend!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

After I read Breaking Dawn I kind of mellowed a bit!. Now, I read alot of Fantasy and I am more Harry Potter obsessed!. I still love Twilight though, and I thought Breaking Dawn wasn't that bad, but wasn't just as good as the others!.

There is nothing wrong with you!. You just outgrew them or something!. You had a falling out with Stephenie Meyer!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hmmm, nope I haven't started hating the books!. But I do think that you should read more than just Tolkien!. It's always good to try new genres and authors!.

One you might enjoy if you like Tolkien is David Eddings!. He is one of my favorite authors and writes high fantasy similar (yet very different) to Tolkien!. His books take place in different worlds, mostly in medieval times with knights and queens and gods!. Excellent books!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

yea I was the same, when I started readin more note worthy books I realized how bad these were!. How underdeveloped the charecters were, how bitchy the charecters were and how much the plot just sucked!. Not to mention the only reason I liked twilight was edward, after I had a couple bfs that were just like edward, i realized how much it would such to be in a realtionship with himWww@QuestionHome@Com

Honestly, I have tried so many times to read through the first paragraph, but couldn't!. I'm fifteen and it just didn't grab me like it was supposed to have, that's what others told me!. Though, I can read one of the Narnia books and I'm pulled in instantly!. I really hope I publish someday :) I'm not trying to be rude, her book just didn't stand out for me!.

Nobody is perfect, not even Edward!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

At first I did like it!. I was like, "Aw man, these are good!" But now I can't stand it AT ALL!. I agree with you entirely, and I also agree with the people who love to bash it on this site- I won't mention names, but there are some people on this site who constantly bash it, and I agree with them 100%!. It makes me rather different at school, where everybody has it in their hands all the time!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

That was the case with me!. But instead, it took BD for me to see the light!. I didn't really become an Anti until I saw a Gaiaonline thread arguing why Edward is abusive, and then I finally converted all the way when I joined TwilightSucks!.com :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

i liked it as i was reading it, but when i wasnt reading it i was like "the writing sucks and so do the characters"

hopefully the trend will just die down
cuz im sick of those obsessed fans
its like addling their brainsWww@QuestionHome@Com

I'm adoring Twilight right now!. I did read the books like two years and did think they sucked, but if you read on -- Book Two or such!.!. it does get better!.

Though I do read novels like: Bell Jar, His Dark Materials, Harry Potter, Agatha Christie etc!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
