I agree that some people believe that YA literature is childish and immature!.
I think that's because these days YA is often without any literature value!. Most teen books are just fluffy easy reads!. They aren't requiring some great mind to read them and understand them!.
No offense , if you are reading or writing them !. There are exceptions , of course!.
However , I respect every genre of book!. It's people's decisions what they like or what they are going to like!.
It's entirely up to them , and there's nothing wrong in either writing or reading them!.

EDIT --
Yes , Of course!. You gave a good example!.
But , what about books , other than the Gemma Trilogy , which fall in the same category!?
In most Meg Cabot books , the story is the same!.
Girl meets boy , Girl falls in love with the boy , They end up together!. I'm talking about many examples of YA!.
Most teen romance books are the same!.

EDIT --
I'm going to try them!. Because I haven't heard about any of them before!. Apparently, authors like Sarah Dessen, Meg Cabot , Elizabeth Scott, Nicholas Sparks etc!.!.!. are more popular!. In my opinion , the books by them are crap!.
But most teens are reading them!.
Hence , people who are not reading YA books , think that all teen books are involved around high school , and crushes , so I assume that's why don't have a high respect on them!.

Some people may believe that, and there may be some truth to it, but there's nothing wrong with reading YA literature!. Most of the people who ridicule it don't like most popular adult fiction either, so don't worry about them!. No, YA fiction is not as demanding as some adult literature, but not all adult literature is difficult!. The subject matter may be geared toward a younger audience, but that doesn't mean it's childish!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes!. A lot of YA books are crap though-- but every once and awhile there's the good ones (such as the Gemma Doyle trilogy, which I LOVE!), that are worth reading and have meaning!. You just have to look out for the good ones, they're out there!. The ones that are devoid of literary value are prominent too, but you know, all genres are like that!.

I admit, I often avoid the YA section in bookstores nowadays, I just don't like a lot of the books there-- but I think I'm going to try Eva Ibottson and Diana Wynne Jones since you mentioned them ( I love Harry Potter!)!. I've been wanting to read Anna Godbersen ( she wrote The Luxe right!?), because I love the time era its set in, but I was suspicious of it, afraid that it will be lame like Gossip Girl!. I think I'll try it now!.

Good question! Www@QuestionHome@Com

no i don't!. the only time a book should be challenging is in kindergarten where a child is just learning to read!. i personally hate a book where u have to stop every page or so to look up a new word!. books are for your personal enjoyment if u read at a college level or a 5th grade level there is nothing wrong with trying something just for enjoyment!. as long as u read, what do u care what other people think about a particular book!. point in case: my dad objected to a book i was reading because of the title!. while i was reading it i came across a series of pages that were so great i had to laugh out loud and when i finished the book, my dad read and loved it!. so there is always room to change others minds about things!. ya know never judge a book by its cover!.!. that goes for most things in life!. There are a few people that YA novels shouldn't be taken seriously, because of the fact that most end up being books like Twilight, the Clique Series, and Gossip Girl!. But, others aren't half bad!. I mean I love books by John Green!. He's one of the few writers for teens that actually sends a message through his books!. It really depends on the author!. People that consider YA books childish just haven't read the really good ones!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, the Twilight books are popular and please remove that link to that horrific article in your profile that bashes the books!. Some people are so narrow-minded that they just insult books that they don't like!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
