Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: You get an agent by doing your research!. Find an agent who specializes in the genre of your story!. Write him/her a query letter with a synopsis of your story!. If they're interested, they may send you an invite to send in your MS!. Make sure that you have done your fair share of editing and that you have corrected all spelling and grammatical errors!. also check to see that your sentence structure are correct!. Agents are not in the business of editing MS!. They get thousands of submissions and do not have the time or patience to read any stories that are rife with errors!. If your story is riddled with errors within the first few pages, it will go in the rejection pile!. They will assume that you are not professional enough and the rest of your story will have just as many errors!. Do not overuse adjectives and adverbs!. Editors hate that!. Do not insult the reader's intelligence by describing everything to them!. Many writers make the mistake of telling the readers what a character looks like, what they're wearing, etc!. Don't do that!. Readers have imaginations!. Make sure it flows well!. Make sure it is neat and presented well and professionally!. Www@QuestionHome@Com When you finish your rough draft, and if it's typed then just go over it and edit it!. If not then you're going to have to either type it up or re-write the whole thing!. Anyway, when you've edited it, hand it to a close friend, family member, teacher, or other supportive person in your life!. If you hand it to a random stranger they'll probably steal it or think you're weird!. XD!. Once you've done that the best step is to get an agent, or they have special sites that will publish books for anyone but I don't trust them!. Best shot is with an agent!. The agent will convince the publishing company to publish your book and there you have it!. Oh, and don't feel bad if you get rejected a few times, the worlds greatest writers have been rejected tons of times, then the companies that rejected them feel really stupid!
