Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: There is a lot to look for in terms of great literature!. I feel like for some classics, there is a significant and sharp change of style which requires a lot of adjusting!. College Readings are based on the classes you select to take, so if you are interested, say, in Post-Modern Feminist Prose, reading the Odyssey would probably not be particularly helpful!. Having said that, there are books that are good to read simply for the intellectual stimulation!. I will list the classics books I enjoyed in order of difficulty!. Level One-- books that are fairly easy Great Gatsby by Fitzgerald The Damned and the Beautiful by Fitzgerald again Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte Agnes Grey by Anne Bronte Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen 1984 by George Orwell Level Two-- a little harder Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte Howard's End by E!. M Forster Theater by Somerset Maugham The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte Level Three-- could take a significant amount of effort Woman in White by Wilkie Collins Great Expectations by Charles Dickens Crime and Punishment by Dostoevsky Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad Level Four-- for the very brave and daring Clarissa by Samuel Richardson Tom Jones by Henry Fielding The Secret Agent by Joseph Conrad Our Mutual Friend by Charles Dickens These are all excellent books that will develop your vocabulary, writing, and thinking skills!. I hope this list helps you find some books you enjoy!. Good Luck with High School!Www@QuestionHome@Com If you are going to be an English major!.!.!.
