Gone with the Wind, by Margaret Mitchell
-it's a classic!. it's beautiful, it's fun, it's captivating, it's frustrating, it's addictive!. and the characters are well, timeless!.

Scarlett O'Hara is very very "strong" (to the point of being bullheaded sometimes, but still great^_^), that's what you wanted right!? i'd suggest not reading "Scarlett" though, a sequel to it that Margaret Mitchell didn't write, but it will heal some of the frustration!.

Cassandra, by Crista Wolfe
it's a re-telling of The Iliad in the eyes of Cassandra!. not very romantic though, but very very interesting!.

or something simple!.!.!.

-great story-teller!. nice romance!. vivid characters, very strong lead characters!. not very "historic" though!.

another good book with romance and a lot of history is
Pillars of the Earth,by Ken Follet

I love Meg Cabot (Heather Wells & Queen of Babble, and tons of others), Sophie Kinsella's (Shopaholic [soon to be movie] & Remember Me), Jennifer Weiner (Good in Bed & Certain Girls) and Emily Giffin (Something Borrowed & Something Blue) books!.They are all great authors!

This is a really good romance because Edward (the vampire) is attracted to Bella, a human and that is a major problem for him because her blood smells really good- better than any human he has ever come across, so he is in love with her but want to kill her for her blood!.
