Personally, I loved it!. There were times it was a little slow due to excessive descriptions, but then there were times I couldn't put it down!. What drew me to it was all the romance, supernatural, guilt, and revenge all piled into it!.

Like just about anything, it has it's pros and cons!. I would suggest reading it though!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

It is an excellent book!. The difficulty with this book and with many books written many years ago is the audience that reads them!. it is very important to remember that times have changed greatly and writing styles that were popular long ago are no longer popular!.

This book was written in the 1700's!. That was nearly 300 hundred years ago, what makes the book great, is that although styles have changed, the message of the book is still very relevant to today!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I thought the plot summary was great, but when I read the book, I felt the execution was rather poor!. I did not like the overuse of description and the lack of dialogue!. The story just didn't feel real to me!. If anyone wrote like that nowadays, the book would be rejected in a heartbeat!.

I hated the lengthy descriptions--they were needless!. And sometimes Hawthorne had to repeat the same information over and over and over and over!.

Frankly, this is the only exception to the book is better than the movie!. I honestly thought the movie was better than the book because it had more substance and more meaning!. You actually got to see what happened before she was impregnated, and you got to see what happened during her prison sentence!. To me, that was a lot more meaningful than starting the story right after all the juicy bits happened!.

It felt fake and two-dimensional!. I did not like any of the characters!. I was especially annoyed by her daughter Pearl!. I appreciate the allegories used, but they were hidden amongst the clutter of description!.

You might like the book!. It just didn't catch my interest as I hoped it would!. I came in with such an open mind, but I was so disappointed with the way Hawthorne executed such a misleading plot summary!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's alright!. I don't particularly love it, but I don't hate it either!. The best way I can think of to describe it is that it's basically a Puritan-era soap opera!. I didn't really connect with any of the characters in particular, and the plot was a bit too slow for my taste, but there is a bunch of great symbolism in the book!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's a good book for school, as far as lesson-plans go!.

But I would never pick it up again!. It's bleak and awkward!.
