I just finished reading Act Four of Arthur Miller's The Crucible, and I was just wondering!.!.!.why does Rev!. Hale counsel Elizabeth to persuade John Proctor to lie!?

I don't know, it seems like an easy question, but I don't know how to answer it!. I'm just wondering!. I may have the answer but I think I'm misunderstanding the play!.

SparkNotes and Cliffsnotes don't really help, so please don't refer me to those sites!.

im not 100% refreshed on the play but wasnt it, after Hale has realized that the whole trial is messed up and that the people convicting are wrong, And John Proctor is up for the noose, Its about pride, die over something you didnt do or die for you pride, if i remember rightWww@QuestionHome@Com

I read this last year!. I believe he tries to counsel her on that so that he can die with dignity!. Because in the end he dies because he refuses to sign the paper saying that he did do witchcraft because it would be on the town door!. Die with dignity is the only answer I can think of!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

He wants John Proctor to lie and "admit" he was associated with witchcraft because when they admit it they get to live!. So Elizabeth wants Proctor to live

hate that book:)!Www@QuestionHome@Com

because if Elizabeth lies then John's life will be saved!.
im actually doing an essay on it now!. hah!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
