I think that the novel began and ended at that pond because the author wanted to show us how simple life can be away from having contact with the cruelty and coldness of the outside world!. In this novel, we find hostility towards the weak or those who are different!. The pond probably served as a symbolism that in life everything is like a circle because it can begin and end in the same place with the difference that in the end, the characters have acquired knowledge and have learned a lesson!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
