Question: What books are good for a 17 year old!?
I've always read kids books, but this year i've kinda begun to dislike them, yet adult books are still a bit boring!. I'm a girl but I can't read any overly girly books, I need some kinda fantasy or sci- fi that isn't too crappy, cheesy, or unoriginal!. I just read redwall all the time because I can't find anything else!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

"In 1877, two gentlemen, Messrs Tonnison and Berreggnog, head into Ireland to spend a week fishing in the village of Kraighten!. While there, they discover in the ruins of a very curious house a diary of the man who had once owned it!. Its torn pages seem to hint at an evil beyond anything that existed on this side of the curtains of impossibility!. This is a classic novel that worked to slowly bridge the gap between the British fantastic and supernatural authors of the later 19th century and modern horror fiction!. Classic American horror writer H!. P!. Lovecraft lists this and other works by Hodgson among his greatest influences!."

"The Ghost Pirates !. !. !. is a powerful account of a doomed and haunted ship on its last voyage, and of the terrible sea-devils (of quasi-human aspect, and perhaps the spirits of bygone buccaneers) that besiege it and finally drag it down to an unknown fate!. With its command of maritime knowledge, and its clever selection of hints and incidents suggestive of latent horrors in nature, this book at times reaches enviable peaks of power!." — H!.P!. The Night Land
by William Hope Hodgson
[O]ne of the strangest visions ever published in science fiction or fantasy is presented!. The Sun has gone out: the Earth is lit only by the glow of residual vulcanism!. The last few millions of the human race are gathered together in a gigantic metal pyramid, the Last Redoubt, probably the first arcology in literature, under siege from unknown forces and Powers outside in the dark!. These are held back by a Circle of energy, known as the "air clog," powered from the Earth's internal energy!. For millennia, vast living shapes - the Watchers - have waited in the darkness near the pyramid: it is thought they are waiting for the inevitable time when the Circle's power finally weakens and dies!. Other living things have been seen in the darkness beyond, some of unknown origins, and others that may once have been human!.?a Excerpted from The Night Land on Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia!.

Here are my favorite fantasies!. I read a ton and these are the best of the bunch:

Tamsin, by Peter S!. Beagle
When Jenny's family moves from New York City to the English countryside, she must readjust her life!. When she starts seeing ghosts around their new farmhouse, she starts to investigate with the help of her cat, Mister Cat!. My description sounds very cheesy but it's actually amazing!.

Ender's Game, by Orson Scott Card
This is the most amazing sci-fi novel I've ever read!. In the future, a young boy is chosen to attend battle school and for a destiny he can't even imagine!.

Tam Lin, by Pamela Dean
This retelling of the classic Tam Lin story takes place on a college campus!. Highly recommended!.

Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones
You may have seen the movie of this one; if not, you should! Sophie thinks she is condemned to be the boring oldest sister until an evil witch casts a spell on her and turns her into an old lady! Then she gets entangled with the wizard Howl!.!.!. this one is classic!

Dragonsong by Anne McCaffrey
Mennoly is an aspiring musician whose dreams are shattered when she injures her hand!. Eventually she runs away from home and ends up finding a herd of fire lizards, which are thought to be myths!. Soon she is on an adventure she never thought she would have!.

The Hero and the Crown by Robin McKinley
Aerin is not your ordinary princess!. She has always felt uneasy with her post - until she finds her calling: dragon hunting!. This one won a newberry!

Sabriel by Garth Nix
Sabriel's father's past has always been shadowy!. When he fails to meet with her, she must use her hidden powers with Charter Magic and venture across the wall into the Old Kingdom, where things are strange and the Dead roam, kept in check only by the Abhorsen!.

Monstrous Regiment by Terry Pratchett
Polly's brother goes missing in the army so she disguises herself as a boy and enlists!. The other members of her group are strange and seem to have just as many secrets as she does!.!.!.

The Thief, by Megan Whalen Turner
Gen is just an ordinary thief until he boasts he can steal anything!.!.!. then he is forced by the king to go on a journey and steal the hardest thing there is to steal!.

I hope this helps! These the best of the best in my opinion and I hope you like them!. Anyway, I don't think you can ever outgrow Redwall :) They're always good!.
