Question: Searching for a certain book!?

Okay I am currently searching this book which I had read when I was about 8 years old!. It was set somewhere in Korea!. And its lead character was a boy!. The book tells about the adventures of the boy with his friends and family!. Unfortunately at the end, his brother or best friend died when a log hit him then fell on icy waters!.
