You might want to try "The Mysterious Affair at Styles" because that's the first book with Hercule!. "Murder of Roger Ackroyd" is the most controversial: some say she didn't play fair in that book, but others consider it a masterpiece!.

My personal favorites are:
Peril at End House, about a rich young girl who is apparently the target of a murderer-- Nick is a great character

"The Hollow" just gives me chills!. It's a big country house murder that should be open and shut: a cheating husband is shot dead at a swimming pool with his wife holding the gun but did she really do it!? The psychology of this one is just fascinating!. The things we do for love!

Murder in Retrospect is one of the long-ago murders that Poirot is called on to solve even after someone else was convicted!. The other one like this is "Elephants Can Remember!."

If you like more exotic location, try "Murder in Mesopotamia!."
