I didn't quite understand the second part, so I did the best I could with it! :)

They were thrust into the bottomless abyss, and only survived by clinging to a craggy ledge that thankfully broke their fall!. As they struggled, they kicked loose a large piece of the rockface!. It fell away, causing a wave of heat to rise that almost cooked them where they hung!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

the part about clinging to a ledge just reword that a little like "but almost didn't survive, just catching a ledge and clinging to it for dear life!." or something!. also i'd change the second "thrust" to something else because you used thrust in the last sentence and it sounds weird!.
other than those, its great!!Www@QuestionHome@Com
